A Weekend Spent on Bikes

We hopped on the freeway Friday afternoon with a car packed full of crap camping and riding gear headed toward the NW Tandem Rally. After three hours of driving, we began to set up camp on the grass field behind the high school's track and football stadium.

One problem: we left the poles in the garage. It was one of those moments you just stand there, nearly scream and then move on. I quickly hopped in the car and headed to the local grocery/everything store and bought a new tent and some beer to drown our sorrows. ;)

After manfriend worked for a few hrs at the expo, we headed off to dinner at 4 Daughters Irish Pub. It was very cool inside and the menu was great. I chose a homemade veggie black bean burger w/ sweet potato fries. Yuuum.

Saturday, we were up and at 'em early to get coffee and be ready to ride by 8:30 am with hundreds of tandem riders from all over the country and even Canada. I accidently dressed very nerd like in red, white and blue.

Manfriend and I decided to ride the medium distance route of 51 miles, which turned out feeling pretty easy thanks to the flat terrain. But it sure was beautiful! We stopped at the two rest areas at miles 17 and 35 or so.

A four seater and believe it or not, it was NOT the longest bike out there.

A family camping near us brought their FIVE seater tandem!

An old store we stopped at for one of the rest/food stops.

We made a wrong turn near the finish and ended up tacking on a few extra miles. 53+ miles in total finishing shortly after 1pm. I think the distance was made easier by the fact that last weekend's 75 mile ride had me mentally and physically prepared.

Although we were tired, manfriend had an expo to work and I had more exploring to do. If there's ever an extra hour to spare, you know I'm not one to waste it!

Check back tonight for the follow up. Trust me, it's a good one. And it will tell you why I'm NOT running today. Must find something that doesn't require moving, but keeps me entertained before heading to our family 5th of July BBQ this afternoon.

Anyone watching the Tour de France? Manfriend upgraded our cable last night so we get Versus for the month of July and just five seconds later we were watching the tour! Crazy how fast technology can be sometimes. Any fun plans for your (hopefully) day off?

Does your mf think tandems are ridiculous? D has his own opinion about them ;)

You Know we're watching TDF - just caught up with today's stage after having some errands to run this a.m. We're basically glued to Versus for the next 3 weeks :)

Five seater, gracious! Don't they know what causes that? haha

Oh, I can just imagine that feeling of annoyance when you realized you forgot the tent poles... Happy to hear you bought some beer to ease the tension/annoyance w/ yourselves! I hate that feeling - but know that feeling very well!

Looks like a fantastic weekend. That ride sounds awesome - so great that you both enjoy biking!
