Hot Yoga & Zesty Pesto Summer Pasta
So, the cold is aaaaalmost gone. I think I gave it one final kick in the bootay Tuesday night with a hot yoga class from ZenSpot. One thing I love (and hate) about hot yoga is how much I sweat.
Can we talk about sweat for a moment? I am not an uber sweaty runner.
But when I enter the hot yoga studio, every ounce of H2O in me seems to pour out. I am not one of those zen like girls who bends and twists along without dripping much. Maybe it's because I'm not a regular hot yogi?
Either way, I saw this as an advantage Tuesday night as I urged this cold out of my pores. Sixty minutes in a 90+ degree room doing strength and lengthening leaves me feeling totally disgusting at one moment and completely cleansed the next. Any hot yoga newbies out there experiencing this?
And now a cold summer pasta recipe to fuel your appetite!
Zesty Pesto Summer Pasta
One of my college roommates showed me the glory that is a cold pasta salad. At first, I was a bit horrified. But a few bites of cold rotini with the hint of salt, olive oil and a lot of balsamic and I was SOLD.
Zesty Pesto Summer Pasta
Boil 4-8 servings of rainbow rotini pasta. I was out, but trust me rainbow makes it fun.
diced olives
cherry tomatoes (halved if you prefer)
chopped red onions
green pepper
diced Tillamook white cheddar cheese
1/4 cup kidney beans (for protein & fiber boost)
1/4 cup Trader Joe's pesto
*After cooking pasta, drain and rinse with cool water.
Seasoning: salt, cracked pepper, garlic salt, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and pesto. Mix well to incorporate the flavors. I don't usually add pesto, but I had some and it went brilliantly in this salad.
other brilliant additions to add:
artichoke hearts
sundried tomatoes
sliced pepperoni (if you roll meaty style)
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Do you have a summer specific menu item you like to make? The other summer specialty I'm looking forward to is making strawberry shortcake! Mmm...
Okay, time to do a little yoga podcast! I couldn't sleep this morning so around 5 am I finally gave up and went for a run. These legs need a little streeeetch.

I will have to make this :)
Oh and I am a SWEATER! I sweat during yoga, during running, during my bike ride to work, if it's an especially hot day... ya... Ha!
Glad to hear this cold is almost packing its bags! I sweat SO MUCH during hot yoga (or even regular yoga when the room is packed), its a little alarming. I usually feel cleansed, but also a little annoyed b/c it makes it hard to hold certain poses.
I have never tried hot yoga. I don't do well in really really warm spaces so I think the discomfort might outweight the positive impacts of yoga!!
