Sweat fest, I mean Bikram anyone?

So Saturday a.m. after a fun night out with the girls, I made my way to the Bikram Yoga Studio downtown that offers your first two weeks of hot yoga (104 degrees) for just 20 bucks. Good deal, eh? I've been wanting to try it out for a while so I showed up early with my towel, mat, water bottle, and $. Luckily, I had been warned ahead of time that there would be middle aged men in nothing more than speedos and A LOT of sweating.

Sure enough, one guy was sporting the speedo. The rest, not much more. I was nearly the most prude in my Nike spandex shorts and tank. The first step into the room is nearly stifling, but the athlete and ambitious, determined woman in me wasn't willing to walk out until the 90 minutes were up.

Of course the teacher has to call out the new girl (right here!) just so everyone knows. Thanks to having prior experience with yoga and being flexible, the yoga itself wasn't too hard, but the additional heat was enough to make me want to pass out at times. I successfully made it without passing out and even went back for more this afternoon (after running an 11 miler this morn). Today was much more speedo-laden, but this time there were a few cuties thrown in the mix. Hm...I'm seeing a future opportunity to wink at the blonde guy next to me as sweat is pouring off of every inch of my body. Can you say hott?! :)

Oh boy, I don't think I could handle those guys in speedos. Ugh!

I'm not sure that I could handle the guys in speedos, but I do enjoy yoga. It's such a calming activity, and it really stretches your muscles. I usually feel the stretch in my shoulders. How long did it take to run 11 miles?

I hate it when I get called out as the new girl somewhere. Hey, though, maybe it'll bring you more to the attention of those hotties?!
are you willing to change?: Just about 90 min.

I did Bikram yoga once about a year ago. The heat did get to me a couple times and made me feel a bit dizzy. Honestly, I can't see how it's very healthy do do yoga in an environment like that. It does jack your heart rate up, but it's more due to the heat than the physical exertion.

Although I would probably have a differing opinion if I had some young, cute and half-naked members of the opposite sex in my class...

fun... looking forward to reading more about your Bikram experience.... I've been doing it for a while now; it's nice to see it from a beginer's point of view.

I love Bikram. I've shifted into more weight training for the past 8 weeks but just reading that is making me ache for that slick purification process.

Although, maybe it's me, but I used to have about 5 minutes around the one hour mark where I was just angry. That said, at 92 minutes, I walk out feeling capable of about anything.

And I say wink away...two sweaty, bendy people sounds like a great time to me:)

I hope our North American culture can come to accept the male form. Women can wear form fitting clothing that reveals their shape and size, but it is deemed unacceptable or even "gross" for men to wear form fitting clothing even for swimming, running, yoga. What is the aversion to the male form? Why the double standard? Does this strike anyone else as sexist, unfair?
